Tetrate, a company commercializing an open-source networking project to facilitate data sharing across applications, has just secured $40 million in funding. The Series A round was led by Sapphire Ventures and Shieber Ventures, with participation from TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington’s CrunchFund.

The project is designed for developers to automate their cloud infrastructure and “connect, secure and manage workloads running in any environment.” Tetrate has plans to use the funding to continue development, expand its team of engineers, and integrate more open-source projects into the product.

This is a milestone for the company founded by former Google engineers Istio and Envoy project leads Varun Talwar and Boyang Chen, who has been working on the project since 2017.
